Who am I?
That was me about 50 years ago. Now, I may be old, fat, grey-haired and wrinkled but one thing has not changed - my love of cycling. Looking back over the years, I have had pleasure, pain, despair and joy.
I have always enjoyed cycling and I think my first charity ride was a 70 mile ride (This was after a break from cycling and had just got back into the saddle a few months previous) For those who know the north west of England, the route was Liverpool Pier Head, Southport, Ormshirk, St Helens, Widnes, Pier Head. I was capable of 70 miles but what I forgot was the start was 15 miles from home and 15 miles back so that made it 100 miles but I completed it. Other rides quickly followed including my Trans Arabian Ride from Dhahran to Jeddah raising over US$40,000 for UNICEF.
I moved to Bangkok about 10 years ago and after a brief liaison with motorbikes, it was back to pedal power. The desire to cycle was still there and the desire to help others was also present but what can I do? With the help of my late wife, Goy, we started to help some of the neighbourhood kids with various bits and pieces - shoes, uniforms, bikes.
After Goy's death, I moved to Korat and decided to carry on the work that Goy and I started but involve cycling friends and others.
